A PERFECT AFTERNOON @ TEATOWN LAKE RESERVATION

By Donna Drake, Publisher July 15, 2016
Teatown Lake Reservation is a nature education and preserve located just 20 minutes away in Ossining, NY. It's listed on our 101 Local Day Trip Ideas article as a great place to explore because of it's proximity to our area and the roughly 15 scenic miles of trails that range from easy to strenuous. One cool afternoon last week my family decided to go and check it out. We took the Lakeside Trail which is a relatively easy 1.5 mile loop with signs along the trail with information about the various species of trees. It was in a word "delightful". The kids had a blast following the trail markers and even begged to do a part of the yellow trail which had more inclines and rocks to climb.

We will be definitely be back soon to explore additional trails and check out some of their additional offerings for visitors which are listed on the website as follows:
  • Participate in our numerous weekend programs including hikes, animal encounters and seasonal activities for all ages
  • View our resident raptors, amphibians, reptiles and mammals
  • Tour Wildflower Island, a 2-acre sanctuary that is home to 230 native and endangered species of wildflowers (seasonal)
  • Visit Warren's Sugar House (seasonal)
  • Visit Wildflower Woods, a unique outdoor living classroom
  • Join in our annual regional festivals including Teatown's Hudson River EagleFestsm, Pancake Brunch, and PlantFest
